General Clinic Questions
What are the clinic's standard operating hours?
Donald Street Health Centre is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We are closed on Sundays and statutory holidays to allow our staff time with their families.Â
We also offer an out of hours service on certain days of the week so don't be surprised if you're called in for an evening appointment.
Is the health centre currently accepting new patients?
Where can I find parking when visiting the clinic?
What services are provided at the walk-in clinic?
Our walk-in clinic provides urgent care for non-life-threatening conditions, including minor injuries, infections, the common cold, and acute illnesses. No appointment is needed, but patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
There is dedicated parking at the front of the clinic. We ask that this be reserved for patients who may have difficulty with mobility. Additional street parking is available on Lola Street just around the corner
Services & Care
What preventative screenings do you offer?
We provide a full range of preventative health screenings including blood pressure monitoring, cholesterol checks, cancer screenings (such as Pap tests and colon cancer screening), and annual wellness exams tailored to your specific age and medical history.
How do you manage chronic diseases like diabetes or heart disease?
Our medical team provides dedicated chronic disease management through regular monitoring, medication coordination, lifestyle counseling, and seamless connection with specialists. We focus on long-term wellness and proactive intervention to ensure comprehensive care.
Do you offer pediatric care and childhood immunizations?
Yes, we offer complete child health services including well-baby checkups, developmental monitoring, and all standard childhood vaccinations following the recommended Canadian immunization schedule to protect your family's health.
Can I receive mental health support at the health centre?
We offer initial mental health assessments and ongoing support for common conditions such as anxiety and depression. Our physicians work closely with you to provide medication management and referrals to specialized counseling or psychiatric services as required.
Appointments & Bookings
What is the cancellation policy?
We require a minimum of 24 hours' notice for all cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the time to other patients in need. Late cancellations may incur a standard missed-appointment fee.
When should I arrive for my visit?
Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. This ensures you have enough time for check-in procedures, updating health records, and completing any required intake forms.
Billing & Insurance
Do I need to present my health card at every visit?
Yes. A valid Ontario Health card or other provincial coverage (such as OHIP) must be presented physically or digitally at every appointment. This is required by provincial health regulations to ensure your clinical services remain fully covered and are billed correctly to the province.
What happens if my health card is expired or invalid?
Patients without active provincial coverage at the time of their appointment may be required to pay for the visit upfront according to the current provincial fee schedule. We will provide a receipt to facilitate your reimbursement once your coverage is reinstated by the province.
Which services are considered 'uninsured' and not covered?
Provincial health plans do not cover administrative or non-essential clinical services. Examples include employment physicals, insurance forms, sick notes, driver's abstracts, and certain travel vaccinations. Payment for these services is required at the time of your visit via debit or credit card.
Do you provide direct billing for private insurance or WCB?
Donald Street Health Centre offers direct billing for Workers Compensation Board (WCB) claims and a select number of private health insurance providers. Please speak with our reception team prior to your consultation to verify your specific plan's direct billing eligibility.
